some adult blogs i’ve looked at do exerpts with a link to ‘more’ while other blogs do full posts with very large pictures or collages.
some link thumbnails to full size pics while others link to the relevent pay site.
aside from the matter of personal taste, what have people found to convert better over time?
i’ve seen blogs with sidebars on the left and others with sidebars on the right. other will have two sidebars in a variety of positions.
as a surfer, i prefer the sidebar on the left… i just think it ‘looks’ more natural there.(perhaps that is simply a product of reading from left to right).
a lot of blogs put the sidebar on the right only. of course i can see that makes it easier mousewise.
are sidebars and blog designs simply a matter of personal taste or have webmaster found their conversion rates differ with different designs?
DOCGuestI used to put thumbnail galleries on my posts, and they didn’t convert well at all. I started using collages, even though I hate them, and they seem to convert better. Surfers don’t really seem to like to click, they seem to prefer scrolling.
Having said that, JUB links thumbs to galleries, the other adult sites link excerpts to full blogs, and the other ones post full blogs on the homepage. So who knows.
As far as sidebars on the left or right, I’d put them on the right simply because your posts will be indexed first, at least that’s the way it works when you used to put up two columned tables in html. And you want your content upfront rather than a bunch of recip links to other blogs or sponsor advertising.
matehtGuestSidebars on the right seem to be the most logical for me. Don’t ask me to find the article I read (it was over a year ago), but it made a compelling case as to why they should be on the right. Basically it had to do with eye movement. With that said I always put my sidebars on the right.
PeteGuestI think I may have read that same article. Sidebars on the right feel more natural, even if only because it’s the most common.
Excerpts vs. Full Posts is complicated. Full posts will likely increase duration on the page, but increase bounce rate. But then there are also tools like the Reduce Bounce Rate plugin to cancel that out.
