When I started doing blogs in 2007 these big, these usually predominantly straight adult blog directories such as wasteblogs, sexbloghunter, silveradultblogs etc. were among the first to send traffic and probably helped with my Google rankings.
Some time ago I asked the same question on the other affiliate forum but I can’t find that thread to save my life. I think most people said that these big, general blog directories are a waste of time and don’t actually help with one’s Google ranking. Also, I think some thought that if one has backlinks to them they may actually hurt your ranking because Google thinks they are such poor sources of backlinks.
I am cleaning up my blogroll links and would like to ask again what you think about these big blog directories. Would you keep your backlinks to them on your blogroll or just delete them?
I often can’t even find my blog there, or it appears buried among thousands of other blogs. But still, maybe they help a tiny wee bit without hurting? There’s a saying in my mother tongue “If it doesn’t ask for food and water, just leave it there.”
madmaxGuestI’ve used them in the past when I first start an adult new blog. When you first add your blog to them you do get traffic but within a few months your buried so far in that you don’t get any.. At the point I don’t get any traffic from them I remove their links.
RDudeGuestI usually end up deleting those links as well. They do help a new blog for a while but then yes, your links end up buried so deep you end up with nothing. So…off the links go.
I’ve really put a lot of thought into sites like Pinup Dudes and the new My Gay Link List with trying to create templates that won’t bury people’s links. No matter how old they get. The next version of My Gay Link List will keep links a bit fresher than most lists I think. Sure, traffic always drops down a bit after a while, but with my using thumbnails as well as descriptions, it keeps the links available to visitors. Which is the sole purpose of sites like this to begin with, right? It is to me anyway. I’ll put a few ads up, but this is about traffic generation predominantly and I’m going to work my ass off to get it – for all of us.
My cents CAD and shameless self-promotion.
maxaffGuestDo they send you much traffic/visitors? Relative to what other sources send. (don’t compare to Google..) One thing to keep in mind is that any traffic you get from directories and link list is independent from Google. Personally I would love to not be dependant on only Google for the majority of my traffic.
Do they hide your URL behind a script or nofollow tag? If they do hide your URL the value of a link on their site is only however much traffic they send.
