JohnS.Guest
I have received a couple of comments from another affiliate on one of my adult blogs. The comments are appropriate and they are not spam. But the webmaster puts a link to his site in the link field, which of course provides a link on his name in the published comment.
So my question is: Do I want to provide a link to this guy?
On the one hand, I appreciate the comment because (a) it may encourage others to comment and (b) Google probably likes it if your site is more interactive. But, do I want to send traffic to a competitor?
Or, is the traffic I might lose so miniscule that it’s not even worth thinking about. I remember years ago when I was starting to do AVS sites and I was all freaked out about those link list recips at the bottom of the gallery until I actually looked at logs and saw how little traffic I was losing.
marimerGuestI have also had this happen at my blog. Sometimes visitors will post comments and include links to their own sites or other sites that feature content relevant to the discussion and I have published these comments intact, including the link.
I have decided to look at each comment on a case-by-case basis and so far I have allowed all links that have been submitted with the comment, but this might change if the link is to a site off topic or that may seem inappropriate.
I also wondered the same thing as you, but I have decided to approve comments with links if the content seems beneficial or interesting to my readers (I just hope they come back to me again!)
NorthonGuestI like to hope/think that there is plenty of room on the internet for everyone. That’s what the one affiliate used to tell me when I worked for him.
Actually, I think it would be beneficial if similar sites actually cross promoted each other like they do on TV. You see Torchwood actors on Doctor Who, etc.
You could have Jake Cruise appear on Silver Daddys or something like that.
Just my 2cents.
marketvantGuestBecause 90% of the comments with links are spam, I take the link field off the comment form. If I could just get Akismet to understand that link = spam that would be great.
But if you have a link field on your form and a legit person fills out the form and links back to their own site – then it’s polite to let the link go through. But it’s better if you just take the link field off your form so it can’t be used in the future – especially if it’s bothering you. You can always add the link in manually when friends comment.
VascoGuestMost of the comments I get with URLs are spam and I just remove them or junk the comment completely if it’s one of those “this very be a informative information” type comment. I don’t get so many comments that I can’t do this manually.
Thanks for the feedback. I’ll approve them, then maybe next week I’ll go comment over on his blog and see what happens.
RichardGuestThe newest one, is spammers leaving comments with real names and facebook links, so it looks real.
shivamGuestI bet it’s someone with a puppy…. he has been busy, because he left comments on some of my blogs.
rajeshGuestAsk yourself if the link provides relevance to your own blog. If it doesn’t, you should axe it.
JoehannGuestHere’s one I’ve been getting on my adult websites:
Wonderful items from you, man. I’ve keep in mind your stuff prior to and you are just too fantastic. I actually like what you’ve got right here, certainly like what you are saying and the way in which in which you are saying it.
Oh boy.
tiendongGuestI noticed that too!!
I’m receiving tons of those spammy/fake comments recently. -
