My most successful adult blog is ranked well on Google for several dozen keywords such as “naked straight guys”, “naked straight men”, “straight guys”, “rough straight men”, “sg4ge”, “nude straight men” and a few paysite names which I promote on it.

Would it be a mistake to start a basically similar blog which would explore the “masculine men” niche – but with less emphasis on straight men per se, and more on macho types irrespective of their sexual orientation and also with more emphasis on amateur guys?

I am concerned that I might jeopardize my own good rankings for the older blog by essentially writing about the same topics in the same way. Would it be wiser to go for some completely different niche for new blogs (e.g. bodybuilders, kinky stuff) than to potentially dilute your own rankings when/if the new blog becomes more popular in Google SERPS?

Personally I think I know most and I write best about the masculine men niche, but if having two basically similar blogs is a mistake because of Google, it’s probably best not to go that route.

I do not think it is a matter of jeopardizing your rankings as long as the two blogs do not have the same content / text (and probably not wise to use the same theme or layouts either).

It is more that your not getting maximum amount of traffic. If you keep creating blog targeting much the same keywords it will greatly limit the type of audience and the amount of visitors you get. It would make much more sense to spread your keywords out a bit and gain more visitors who search for other things than “straight guy”.

By the way, have you ever checked how many people search for “straight men” or “straight guys”? It’s a very limited amount of people who use those words when searching for porn.

When you find something you know and convert build build build out more sites from every conceivable angle of said niche.

If you had five spots on the first page of Google for “keyword” how could that be worse than having just one? Someone is going to be in those spots / competing it might as well be you.

Also since Google can just tank your sites at whatever time for whatever reason it’s best to hedge your bets and have multiple sites going after the same traffic because it’s unlikely that Google will punish them all.

I agree with what’s been said, if you can corner the niche you shouldn’t worry about competing with yourself. You’re still going to be in the top listings with one of them.

    Thanks guys.

I guess it’s OK to build another adult blog with essentially the same niche if I don’t aim at exactly the same keywords for which I rank well with my old blog.

I don’t know how often the other keywords are used by surfers because the ones I mentioned appear in greatest numbers for me. But then again I haven’t tried to rank for any other keywords so far. However, I do get your point. It would be better to try to win the keywords from some other niche than to squeeze this niche further.

I’ve also noticed it’s not always directly intuitive which exact keywords will be most sought for for a particular niche. For the straight men niche I thought it would be “masculine men” but that turned out to be one of the least sought keywords. Instead, “naked straight men” and “nude straight men” is frequently sought by surfers.

I do not agree with the others at all.

You really do not want to compete with yourself on search rankings. You are not maximizing your chance for traffic and the amount you can get. I have grown my adult sites by going for as many different keywords as possible. Otherwise you will never grow and be stuck with the niche traffic you have. Your only way to grow your profits is more traffic, more traffic you will only get from maximizing your search audience. Simple. The exception to that rule would be if you are on page 1 for something like “gay sex”, then sure I would go for every single position there is, but you and me will never end up on page 1 for gay sex.

So how do you know what people search for if you do not research it? In my view you have gone for the small left overs and not for any major traffic keywords. Checking what keywords to use is extremely important, otherwise you are just targeting words at random. You can use things like Google Trends or better yet Word Tracker. Here is a very good example of what i mean with your words might not be very popular:

    google.com/trends/?q=nake…ate=all&sort=0

Comparing “gay porn sites” which I consider to be low traffic with “naked straight guys” shows that your chosen word is quite small in comparison. You should still target niches but you need to make sure your picking the right words. If you are willing to spend a small amount of money you can use Word Tracker, that can really help you find great words to target. It can also help to make sure you’re using the right word combinations. Google Trends can also do that:

    google.com/trends/?q=nake…ate=all&sort=0

That shows your best word combination is “naked straight men” and your worst is “rough straight men”. I have not included “straight men” because you would never manage to score high for that on Google.

If you really want to improve traffic you got to dedicate some time to research. But I have a feeling majority of bloggers do the same mistake. Building blogs dedicated to certain terms or keywords that actually no one really uses then wonders why they do not get any traffic.

I tend to agree with you on this. I think it’s better to start another adult blog in an entirely different niche and target different keywords.

I also use wordtracker (free version only) and Google Adwords Keyword Tool when trying to predict which keywords will be popular among surfers. Thanks for the Google Trends tool, looks pretty useful.

Btw. Google Adword Tool shows that there are about 33,100 searches for the keyword “macho men” so I figured it could be profitable to build a blog around it.

Actually, you are wrong regarding the assessment of the popularity of those keywords. “Rough straight men” has always been the most popular keyword on my blog (if we don’t take into account the “not provided” keyword). Now it brings about 2700 visitors a month (was 4800 last year).

And I even ranked high for “straight men” for about one year. I used to get about 50 visitors per day for the keyword “straight men” and I was anywhere from place 3 to place 8 in the Google search results for that keyword. It lasted until about 10th October 2016 when Google apparently decided to demote most porn blogs for that keyword and now you can see mostly youtube videos and some blogs on blogspot when you search for “straight men”

If you want I can show you my GA data.

What I think you’re missing in the bigger picture is that it’s easier to rank well for the keywords for which there is not as much competition as for e.g. “gay porn sites”. So even if “rough straight men” is searched for far less than “gay porn sites”, I will attract the bigger percentage of those surfers who do search for that keyword than if I attempted to compete for “gay porn sites”. In other words, “rough straight men” is more specific, it’s a smaller niche than “gay porn sites” and thus probably easier to dominate by one affiliate.

Mra, you scare me, , I think I listened to you a lot. I was on the edge of registering a domain yesterday which to me sounded good so I checked trends and turns out maybe I’m just weird because no one searches for them. Probably the better question to ask for this thread is not ‘am I stepping on my own toes’ but why, which is legitimate to ask. It’s not so great to dominate the top ranks for a keyword search among multiple blogs because Google will eventually pick up that they’re all yours. Then again there is only so far you can go because trying to sell sites with guys you aren’t yourself attracted to probably doesn’t go so well (try writing a description for a model that you have no attraction to, it won’t work). My take is to develop the niches you understand the attraction for as far as you can, do all the SEO and sitemaps etc for Google, but get links because SE will only get you so far. And there will be keyword combos no one could have predicted would be popular (hmm, ‘miami zombies’? ) so you really can’t control it as much as some would have you believe. The solution is just do as good a job as you can and make your blogs more specific than the next guy, get links, over time it will work.
