Hallo!
I would like to find an affordable way to better collect the email addresses of our adult website visitors and to use them for future campaigns. Currently we just have a small text link in the footer which directs to phpList (Open Source tool to administer email addresses and set up campaings).
I looked into the big email services but find them all very expensive. The volume we need would cost between $50 – $100 per month and the success is promised but not neccessarily guaranteed. Good thing is that the professional email provider provide email templates and all kinds of analytic tools but most of that is available as free Open Source tools, too.
What I really like are that (exit) pop ups, message bars and list builder tools as provided by Sumo.com but again this bundle of luxuary apps cost quite a bit.
Anybody willing to share his experiences with email list builders (pop-up or message bar that requests visitors to leave their email address to receive mailers)? How do visitors react to them? Do they fullfil their purpose at all? What is the percentage of visitor who leave their email? Or are visitors even annoyed because they have to do one extra click to get rid of the pop-up?
Might be from the Sumo suite but I am sure there are alternatives out there, too! Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
DOCGuestI’ve used mailchimp.com but thats for non adult mailers. Check if its possible to use for your needs as the pricing isnt that bad. But I suspect it might not be allowed for adult stuff.
JackkkGuestI also did hear that Mail Chimp is not adult friendly. Also I find them relatively expensive to be honest. If you have 5000 subscribers they charge you either $55 monthly (subcription) or $100 pay-as-you-go. Surely they offer a good service and have a good product but if you want to send out mailers just from time to time it costs you quite a bit. We currently work with phpList which is Open Source and for free.
The only reason I can see to use one of the big email providers who charge for their services is if the their deliverability rate would better. Currently 40-50% percent of our mailings seem to end up in the addressees spam folder. Anybody got an idea if this can be improved if you use e.g. Champaign Monitor (which I have heard is supposed to be adult friendly)?
DOCGuestThe spam is a real issue and actually using Mail Chimp doesnt really help. It’s to do with how much HTML content like images and formatting you have. The more plain a email is the more likly it will get through.
You could try just using a mail service like app.sendgrid.com/ but again Im not entirely sure if you can do it with adult content. Im guessing it depends on how hardcore it is or if its fairly innocent.
flodd74GuestI’m also interested in this topic because in mainstream web marketing the practice of gathering emails is considered a must in order to make money. But all of the major email services I checked (MailChimp, Constant Contact, etc.) do not allow adult sites. So I’ve also been looking at open source, low cost solutions and would love to hear any suggestions.
I think the problem with adult sites is that the majority of surfers probably don’t want to give their real name and email to get on a porn email list. I’ve been a porn consumer for decades and I’ve never signed up for a porn newsletter. However I have still ended up getting emails from sites I joined and later quit, who then sent me messages trying to get me to re-join. I will admit I’ve responded to some of their discount offers if they were really good.
MarcGuestYou might give ynotmail.com a look. That’s who we use.
JackkkGuestSomeone recommended ymlp.com to me. They are more cheap than the other email service providers I came across and I guess they do the basic job, too. No fancy analytics tool encluded though as far as I could see. Didn’t use them myself yet…
Does anybody use Sumo.com? Any ideas for alternatives, especially when it comes to message bars, pop-ups, pop-unders, exit banners and what else there might be?
