My main site has social media pages on all the major platforms. In the case of Twitter, for a while I was only tweeting material that pertained exactly to my niche. I’ve been experimenting with branching out a bit, retweeting and commenting on other people’s content that’s outside of my niche. It’s good to engage and build relationships with readers and other webmasters, etc., plus, it’s social media; why not be social? However, I fear that if I do too much of that, I may give first-time visitors the wrong impression of what the site is about (which used to happen a lot in the past).

How do you strike that balance, if at all?

Generally, I think that you should not retweet too many stuff from the other accounts that are not in your niche. The best thing to gain new followers (at least in my own experience) is to do a retweet for a retweet exchange with the related accounts. If you do that with an account that is active and has a lot of followers, it may bring you a few hundreds of fans in a very short time.

That makes a lot of sense. Thank you.
