Someone sent a sales pitch to me through my contact form on my site. My site is a design, blog, story and review writing resource for adult affiliates. The sales pitch was to buy exclusive adult content.
Tell me…would you consider that spam…or not? There is no indication on my site that I’m interested in buying adult content whatsoever. Therefore, I consider this spam. It came from someone I have never heard of and as far as I know, they don’t even have a web site up.
I emailed the sender and politely asked them (using please and thank you) not to spam my contact form. They rationalized that what they are doing is not spamming. LOL. I cannot concur.
Also, which do you consider rude? Sending unsolicited spam through a contact form selling a product totally unrelated to the site the form is on, or sending a polite email asking them to stop? Apparently, I’M the rude person here.
Your thoughts? Thanks.
seeqerGuestI thought that was what the R stood for.
deppstarGuestHow dare you? Are you out of your mind?
Please leave those spammers alone, they do not deserve this!MaxxGuestI would probably just press the delete button and continue with my day.
rickGuestWhen it’s an automated message, I do the same. However, when a person tries to justify this kind of blatant spamming in their email response, I really do my best to let them know how much it’s frowned upon. That’s just me, but…
It worked. The person apologized and to top it off, we’re negotiating me designing a site for him to sell his content from. Nothing is firm as of yet, but they now realize this was the wrong way for them to go about pushing their material. I mean, who really buys content from someone who spams them anyway? I know I don’t! LOL.
Anyway, I think this was a person who really had no idea they were going about this in a way that is less than reputable. It just goes to show you the mindset of some people on the net these days. The one that says “spam is ok”.
DOCGuestSpam is unsolicited mail. You were not soliciting for content. It is spam.
GinGuestWell, you see that spam was useful for you if you are now in negotiations of site designing.
rickGuestNo, I can’t see it like that actually. Spam is not useful. It’s annoying and more often than not, dangerous to a person’s computer.
In this case however, this person really had no idea that spamming was bad and that was because someone told him that. So, like P2P programs and stealing anything from songs to copyrighted porn, spamming is also considered “OK”.
God help this planet. We’re going to need it.
