Just curious – what is the consensus on typical max length for adult tube videos? (Promo videos given out by sponsors and used by responsible affiliates – I’m not talking about pirated videos). I know some sponsors are at 2 min, others at 5 min, others 8 min, etc.
Sponsors – answer the poll in regard to what max length you’re typically comfortable giving out. Understanding a short video may get a shorter clip and a behind the scenes video may get a longer clip. If you have two lengths typically available answer the longer length.
Adult affiliates – answer what you’ve found is the most typical max length with sponsors (if you want to be technical the mode or possibly median length). So if you find most sponsors have 4 and 8 minute clips available, the answer would be 8 minutes.
RichardGuestI have data to show that 5 minutes actually convert better than any other.
..but i also have the same data show the giving away FULL Scenes actually convert too. (not that we ever did that..)
Swings and roundabouts.
geekyzoneGuestI think on average videos are around 5mins long. but there is a huge difference between the shortest and longest.. i see some below 20secs and others above 10mins.. i don’t think either of those extremes are good. i’d like to see something inbetween. I’ve definitely changed my mind about lengths, originally i wanted really short but im not sure it makes much of a difference, in the end it’s the content of the video that sells… my preference now would probably be around 3-5mins.
geekyzoneGuest@Richard,
I find that hard to believe, so you’re saying that because a clip is 5min long it sells better than any other.. that means improving profits is as simple as only using 5min long adult clips. So is your data comparing only 1 sponsor or several? have you compared a range of sponsors and looked at a comparison between their clips based on different lengths?
BaddGuest3-5 minutes, like geekyzone said BUT i do believe it also depends on what your showing. eg just conversation and interviews, or snippets of the entire video or something hardcore………
I think weve tried everything and it really doesnt seem to follow a concrete formula !
imarketerGuest@geekyzone,
I totally agree with what you said. For years I always believed in making very short video previews but as time went by, I realized that it doesn’t really matter; if the content is that good, the surfer will join. So with that said, I went from 45 seconds to about 4 – 4.30 minutes on my adult blog.
As for tubes, they asked us to provide them with 10 minutes previews of our videos (with cum shots). I find it to be insane now but I don’t have data that shows that it works or doesn’t work so I can’t really tell. Still if I had my own website, there is no way I’d provide tubes a 10 minute video with cum shot, no way.
iAmLuanGuestAfter some testing we find that 5 minutes was the best converting lenght of our trailer clips. When we had 1 minute trailers, the joins went down a bit, when we upped them to 10 minutes the same thing happened. I belive 10 minutes is enough for people to jack off without joining. 5 minutes seems to be perfect.
BuddyXGuestOur trailers are generally around 5 minutes long, however for a few of the sites Buddy Profits represents we allow trailers of up to 8 minutes long. These trailers would not contain 8 minutes of hardcore footage; it could simply be to show surfers there is a plot to the scene.
I also don’t believe there is an exact formula when determining the perfect length for a trailer. You could give surfers a 10 minute boring preview video that won’t convert as good as a 1 minute hot, well edited teaser video. More important than length you have to show surfers what the scene is about, get them engaged and turned on but not so turned on that they can “finish off” before buying a membership.
JasownGuestThink of a Hollywood feature film trailer – here some info on that.
“Trailers consist of a series selected shots from the film being advertised. Since the purpose of the trailer is to attract an audience to the film, these excerpts are usually drawn from the most exciting, funny, or otherwise noteworthy parts of the film but in abbreviated form and usually without producing spoilers. For this purpose the scenes are not necessarily in the order in which they appear in the film. A trailer has to achieve that in less than 2 minutes and 30 seconds, the maximum length allowed by the MPAA. Each studio or distributor is allowed to exceed this time limit once a year, if they feel it is necessary for a particular film.”
I have always thought that trailers should be around the 1 minute mark for short porn films. After all, there is minimal plot to be expressed in the typical porn trailer for a video! Come on…you simply need to show the models so the surfer knows if they want to see more. Let them know what they will see in the video (fucking sucking condoms used – yes or no). That should quickly in about 1 minute.
Do you really think that with a full page of a tube site showing 20 videos of 10 minutes each (humm…that’s over 3 hours of video on 1 page of 1 tube site) they are going to bother to stop watching…leave the site…go to the other site…pull out a credit card…buy a membership…then look for a scene to watch? NO! They are going to keep watching 10 minute adult clips until they find one that pushes then over the edge and cums.
No one makes a sale and you have successfully taught the surfer that he doesn’t have to pay for porn to get his nut off!
Keep them short always no exception. Take a clue from Hollywood folks.
brosmGuest@Jasown,
The point of the thread is not how things should be, but how they are. Sponsors are giving out 5 and 8 min clips, so legal tubes with longer clips exist and they make sales.
So you only give out 1 min clips? Do your competitors give out longer ones? Do any tube sites push back and promote your competitors instead of you?
