Would having more than one database active on one adult domain effect rankings in G? I have two subdirectories which include separate db’s, just wondering if this is effecting my rankings as their is one site I can’t seem to raise in the SERP’s. Trying to look at all angles here.
jerkeyGuestGoogle can’t see the databases. They only see the page. I sometimes (rarely) use multiple databases on a single page. Anything is possible.
I should add, thinking more deeply about your question – there was a time when two types of content on a single domain confused Google. They wanted to put you in a bucket of “a blog site” or “a tube site”, or “a gallery site”. But now all they care about is brand reputation and authority. If you’re the go-to source for something on that topic, then you rank highly no matter what is on your site (provided it’s not low quality, but that’s a different discussion).
DeenGuestYes, I can’t quite understand the question either. I have 10+ databases on a single domain, doesn’t matter.
Rankings depends on the actual content on the pages, if they are unique or duplicate and incoming links.
EdwardWGuestDatabases are a place for storage, in this case “texual content”.
You can have as many as your server can handle, google doesn’t care or doesn’t know. It only cares of the output, HTML pages.JamesMerrittGuestThank for the replies, what I’m trying to say is ex: my-domain.com/ , my-domain.com/gallery , my-domain.com/movies so three different db’s.
One interesting issue with this is my permissions change when updating WP, a few in the root and several in wp-admin. Unrelated to my question of course but I wasn’t certain whether having essentially different sites (by virtue of the directories) created a conflict when G crawled the site.
kaybee1GuestThis is why wordpress lets you set a prefix on installation.
wp1_
wp2_
wp3_So that you can have everything in one database for multiple wordpress installations on a single domain. This makes backups and MySQL access easier as well as allows you to do things like use the same jumpscript data across installations without accessing multiple databases.
