I have a dedicated server at Cerified Hosting. It’s constantly going down, just for a few seconds to minutes at a time. For a while I reassured myself it was just because I was always on my adult sites, but I’m always on a lot of sites, and they’re not going down all the damn time.
Is this because the other sites I’m gong to like CNN, YouTube, FaceBook, etc are huge sites and have so many layers of redundancy? Do your sites go down for seconds to minutes every few days/weeks?
It’s always brief, but if I were one of my customers I feel like I might start to notice. It’s a pain in the ass to move hosting companies though, I’m loathe to do it if it won’t solve the problem.
Looks like you have some connectivity issues. It might be a network adapter, wrong settings, or just your hosting company has a shoddy ISP. It may also be caused by some ddos attacks, low memory and so on. In any case, this should not happen. For example, I have four hours of downtime in the last 2 years and it was a planned maintenance.
i have a monitor on our certified server, and we haven’t been getting reported downtime. but just now i was going to suggest you immediately go to downforeveryoneorjustme.com when one of your sites wasn’t answering for you and i did that for one of my sites (we’re also at certified) and it said it was down. less than ten seconds later, we were up. oh, dear.
Obviously occasionally things go wrong like a crash or an attack, for more regular things try looking at a dodgy bit of script that runs up the CPU or RAM (check your logs), if not it might be time to contact your server host, usually most will try help as best they can to get you to not leap ship to another provider. Although saying that I have no experience with certified other than I know a lot have recommended it here in the past, I dont know if it piggybacks its hosting off another provider or if it actually owns the servers itself (I am sure you/others would know more on this), but one bug thing to note is to check its not been bought up by EIG because every hosting I have seen bought by them goes to hell fairly fast.
