I now name my image files by date and number only on my adult site. So the first image in today’s post would be 100510-1.jpg I used to flood it with keywords, but heard it doesn’t matter because the SE’s use the words around it (link title tag and alt tag) to place the image in Google images, etc.. How many of you do this and find it fine/successful, or do some of you think there should be some kind of keywords or description in the actual image file name?
I also have cut down considerably the length of the image title tags and alt tags.
JasclickGuestI think it’s better to use keywords in the file name than not. I’m sure it has some affect image searches.
FoongGuestThat would be my advice as well. Althought the alt tag is more important, I think the name of the image files are used to determine what an image is about. If not, it doens’t hurt at least.
timGuestCurious then what you think about how many keywords should be in the title or how long the title should be, and if it should make sense as a written phrase or just be listed?
I’m using the date to organize my files, so that comes first.
Examples:
100511-1-muscle-hunk.jpg100511-2-smooth-muscle-hunk.jpg
100511-3-muscle-hunk-ripped-abs.jpg (listed, not made into a phrase)
100511-3-muscle-hunk-with-ripped-abs.jpg (phrase written to make sense)
100511-4-hardcore-fucking-muscle-hunk.jpg
100511-5-cock-sucking-and-hardcore-fucking.jpg
100511-6-cock-sucking-and-hardcore-fucking-muscle-hunk.jpg
100511-7-cock-sucking-and-hardcore-fucking-muscle-hunk-Rico-Hernandez.jpg
jackeyyGuestmyself, when i rename the images, i usually just use the site name or porn star name, keeping it short, simple, and easy to catalog. but then I do like things simple & convenient whistle
timGuestThat’s what I’m gonnna do. I like that. Simplicity and a good compromise between doing as little as possible with the image file name and having some sort of SEO. Right, also good for cataloging.
Looking back at what I was doing, I’m laughing while writing this sentence already. It’s really funny.
CowanGuestI just use the ID number from my CMS plus dimensions (e.g. 201667-640×381.jpg) and I get lots of Google Images traffic. Yeah, keywords would be nice, but not sure whether it’s worth the effort.
smartapeGuestI think these names are best case scenario…
There has been talk about Google “seeing” images, but clearly guiding the engine with keywords in the image names, titles and alt tags is the best option! (if you have time… ).
timGuestThanks guys.
