Okay, so I’m a little confused.
I was under the impression PayPal do not do any kind of business with any adult content sites, whether you’re receiving payment as an affiliate or trying to gather payment for subscriptions. But I know of one adult community site asking for donations using PayPal, and I had an email from the one adult affiliate program stating they now pay out using PayPal.
So, has something changed? Have PayPal finally seen the light and moved into the 21st century with the rest of us?
bideauGuestI don’t think it’s changed, but if one uses a non descript email addy, that doesn’t scream PORN, Paypal is an option, and always has been.
just my opinion.
Dake40GuestI asked paypal specifically if we could do business to business payments for our porn affiliate site, stressing this is only to pay affiliates and not to accept it for any memberships. Their answer was NO!
JayMGuestNot sure how this keeps coming up. If your transaction has been in the presence of a naked person … *don’t* use Paypal. Period. End of story. It’s not even a very good rate to send large quantities of money with, so I have no idea how this keeps coming up. Your account will be locked down and every penny in it is 99% chance of never being seen again, and you’ll be on a permanent blacklist with Paypal – even if you do manage to get them to re-open it, you’ll never get a Paypal card and be under a microscope with them forever.
I only use Paypal to buy some content or themes.
PBJoeGuestI discussed this earlier this week. I know of a few programs that have said that they received the OK from PayPal. The one big program is one that says he was told that he could not do it.
Not only did we email paypal, we picked up the phone and called them too. Indeed we were told it is not against their policy to use their service to pay affiliates for advertising, even if the advertising was for an adult site. In no uncertain terms, we were given the green light.
With the conflicting reports from various programs, it is understandable that many do not want to be paid with PayPal. This is why PrideBucks is also offering Paxum and will soon be introducing ACH payments too.
JeromyeGuestSooner or later this is likely to catch up to you – they actively research this sort of thing and sooner or later they’ll notice un-porn related email ‘A’ is sending large numbers of payouts monthly or un-porn related email ‘B’ is receiving a payment from un-porn related email ‘A” and wonder ‘what’s the deal there?’ The approach of maybe not getting caught only works if you can afford to lose Paypal for good.
lloydGuestPayPal does allow payments to be made to affiliates via PayPal. I am not sure who at PayPal told Dake40 what he was told. Several years ago I was involved in a business that was doing about 50k a month with PayPal and I know the right person to ask about that. Now, it is true that when you start sending out 10k payments to affiliates in other countries you may trigger their fraud control system. Once that gets triggered they do investigate. But, at the end of the day, I would rather have a system with tough fraud controls that is going to stay in business than one with loose fraud controls that gets shut down by the banks.
Kc-TanGuestWith paypal and this issue it depends on the phase of the moon…or what astrological lunar phase it is at the time.
imarketerGuestYes, they do. I emailed them once complaining about the same issue. No response though.
millysterGuestYears ago one Paypal rep told me it was all ok to do adult sites and then when I applied, I was rejected. I rang them and they said its ok again but the system wouldn’t process it…so who the hell knows with them……
I use Paypal only to pay for my adult hosting and for some items like tube script et cetera.
