it was getting time to switch to secure, which neither my partner or i knew much about. he spent a week looking into switching WP blogs to https without SEO loss, then switched one of our adult sites to see how it went. the search engine sites he reads suggested using a permanent 301 redirect as described here

so far, the site we switched over, which was new and getting only a little traffic, is only getting traffic sent to the http pages; the newest sitemap i made is all https listings, but none of them are getting any hits or even impressions. it’s only been a few days, but our blogs always get at least a few hits in the first few days – except for this one.
does anyone have any resources or tips for making the switch?
coolmikeGuestI installed SSL on my main adult blog last Saturday.. It wasn’t so easy because I’m using Virtualmin CP and there the installation is pretty complicated.
I bought a positive SSL from ssls.com. They sent me 4 files. And there was the challenge – I had to merge 3 of the files in one new CA cert. Then I uploaded the new one and my domain cert on Virtualmin.
Be aware that Google considers your https version as a new site. So you have to log in Google webmasters and add the new version.
Also, you have to make permanent redirection 301 in your .htaccess. http>https.
And finally you have to replace all http addresses in your database.
In brief: you must do it if your blog allows comments, logins, email subscriptions and so on. Still, it won’t be fully secured if you include for example videos from a non-sssl site.
