From Webmaster World…
Uniregistry is to massively increase the price of some of its under-performing new gTLDs in an effort to keep them afloat. Starting September 8th.
The affected TLDs appear to include
.audio
.blackfriday
.christmas
.click
.diet
.flowers
.guitars
.help
.hiphop
.hosting
.juegos
.link
.property
.sexy
.tattooWho knew that .tattoo or .guitars or .diet wouldn’t have many people signing up?
What I don’t understand is what reoccurring costs there are running registries that would require such an increase. I understand that there were huge start up costs, but what are the reoccurring charges? I’d think once you paid the up-front costs they’d just be cash machines. I don’t get how they can lose money.
cyberproGuestMaybe they took out loans or had investors for the start-up costs and now they need to pay them back.
I still don’t get the idea of gTLDs. The general public only associates dot coms with websites and the gTLD’s never seem to show up in Google search results. Seems like a waste of money to me as an adult affiliate.
dylan09GuestWhy am I not surprised!
CowanGuestWhy am I not surprised that people are not surprised…
Every single adult blog/site over the past 2 years using a non-traditional domain extension that I know of has died…
It wouldn’t be a business move i would make buying one of these….
