    Hey there,
I really don’t know how to handle a certain situation. Let me explain:

Six months ago I bought a script. Dealing with smarty is really terrible and it delayed everything. I came up with 3 different designs to “add” to this script. My favorite one was inspired by another popular adult site. For me inspired means using the same concept but not making an exact copy. I even showed the design done to some people of this forum who asked me about that.

Few months later another popular site changed its design with a EXACT COPY (even hexadecimal color values were/are the same!!) of the popular design that inspired me. Since this site is pretty popular (the site who copied the design i mean) and owned by a company with a really good reputation, I’ll feel like a thief for sure (even if I was the first who did design inspired by a certain site). But I really love my work and I don’t want to trash weeks of pains with smarty.

What do you suggest in order to handle this situation? This thread is here just to ask for an opinion and not to bash any company or create some drama, so I won’t name any company/site.

    Thank you.

Without seeing the site, I think what you did is normal. I have often gone into the website template sites and grabs screenshots of their offerings that I really liked. I dragged them into Photoshop and I started designing my own project. In the end, my sites rarely look like the inspiration, but they were a jumping off point.

You have to be careful, it’s fine to take ideas and help with how to build a page but if they are too similar you’re actually in breach of copyright. Web design just like writing, music or film is under copyright protection as soon as it’s created.
