Seriously. We need some new ideas and to put a spin on some old ones. What are adult affiliates finding that converts the best these days?
Tube style, old school video with photos style, amateur/reality style, Pictures only, transparent tour/member areas?
I run a several gay paysites so I am curious. Examples would be appreciated.
The tube style tours worked great last year, but I got the impression that ratios for those tours are declining. That is when I look at my own stats, but another paysite owner might be able to give some better details.
Transparent tours that show the latest updates without giving away too much (limitation of the number of videos that can be watched or previews that are only 30 seconds long) always work well for me. Well chosen photos are important too. Large, bright and clear photos will grab the attention of the surfer. Preview clips might close the deal in the end, but photos will arouse attention.
Also, highlight your best selling points in a brief but clear way. Something like this:
800+ exclusive HD videos
1000+ picture sets
Weekly updates
Free bonus access to xxxx
Trial memberships availableSince most people don’t read a page but “scan” a page, it has to be short and showy.
I guess it differs per site.
BelAmi is all about the beauty of young men shown in high definition, in their tour it works to focus on one scene at the top, showing of their HD in the size and quality of the pic/movie.
Englishlads is more about the diversity of the Brit lad / young hunk, in their tour showing this diversity works real well.
What converts best is what shows off the “strong points” of a site best.
What works for one site does not necessarily have to work for each site.
What works for each tour is making clear the site updates regularly …
Those tube tours seemed to work really well for the boyfriend sites, but don’t necessarily seem to work so well for other sites. I think if you say “click here for a preview” and you don’t give one, surfers tends to get pissed off. Those tours might work well for boyfriend sites because it’s real amateur content and a lot of those guys are so much hotter than porn stars.
The Bear Films tour converts well for me. Lots of pictures of hot men on the homepage and a couple of previews of the recent vids. If you click “videos” it shows you all the videos, but those thumbnail clicks don’t lead to more previews, they lead to the join page. So you don’t have the never ending tour where a surfer can watch 300 2-minute clips.
Bear Films is one of my best converting sites in the My Gay Cash stable, but I just looked and my recent conversion rate isn’t the best. It has been a lot better, but this last month has been a killer, so I’m sure it’ll get better and average out.
Hairy and Raw is run by the Bear Films guys and it does fantastic for me. Same kind of tour. And it sells about three times better than Bear Films. Awesome conversions.
Butch Dixon is also run by My Gay Cash and the tour looks similar, but it converts way worse for me. In fact, I really only put up their content because … well, I love the site and the men, D’UH, I used to own the site … but it’s not a good seller for me. However, I just looked at the tour and when you click their video section, you do get an endless supply of 2-minute preview videos, it was always like that. So maybe all that video is enough and gets people off.
Butch Dixon converts three times worse than Hairy and Raw, and only slightly worse than Bear Films this past month, but like I said, Bear Films has converted better than it has in the last month or so, which seems to be more to do with an overall sales climate than a site problem.
So perhaps one of the keys to better conversions is not offering the never-ending tour overflowing with free vids.
Great feedback, thank you everyone! I’m interested in trying some new things and revamping some of our tours and this thread is giving me some good ideas. I have noticed on our end that for our more amateur style sites (such as Boysstarmovie) the tube style works well and the conversions are great. Straightrentboys is also a consistently good converting site, which we also recently converted to more of a tube style. However on our HDK sites, I’m not sure if this style is working as well — we might want to try a more photo heavy tour or something different. I’ll be looking at all the sites mentioned this weekend and making some notes to see what we can do to get everyone’s conversions up.
My new tour style has been working well. I’m getting ready to spruce it up a little because I’m moving to an all new platform CMS that you will hear a lot about this year. But for now, I can tell you it’s been my experience the less you give away for free the better sales are. Within reason.
