DommyGuest
I would like to wish everyone the very best for a successful year in 2017. I wanted to thank all of the contributors at this forum for sharing their knowledge, ideas and kindness throughout 2016. This is a wonderful place to learn and it’s great to be a part of this community.
I am interested to know what we should do with content from an adult site that has been closed. Lets use Flashcash as an example due to its recent closure. We are given approval to use the promotional material at our blogs to promote their site under an affiliate agreement, but are we allowed to keep the material on display at our blogs once a site has closed or should we remove it?
This is probably a question best answered by a legal professional or copyright expert, but I am curious to know what other affiliates do in this situation. I have kept my posts online at my blog since the site closure and simply changed the link code that went to Flashcash to a page at my blog explaining in general that the site may no longer exist.
In the Flashcash example, I was unable to ask them directly, because they sent their site closure notification message from a noreply@ email address. In my mind, there is no real purpose for keeping the content online, except that it looks good and my visitors may still enjoy looking at it, although they can no longer sign up to become a member at the site.
I also wonder whether deleting a large number of posts will impact on a blog’s reputation with search engines, due to multiple posts being deleted. I’m not knowledgeable in this area, but hopefully someone will also know the answer to this.
I look forward to hearing what others do in this situation. Thanks.
DOCGuestI keep the shit up, but because of using a jump script, I simply change the forward to an HTML page announcing the site has closed, and that they might wish to consider other sites, listing similar sites for them to choose from.
I can’t be bothered with removing posts, nor do I think its wise to delete content. Redirecting to a notice seems more logical, as well as simpler.
My two cents.
DommyGuestThanks for your response DOC. Right now I am using a general bad link page for all closed sites, but I do like the idea of creating a specific page for each site announcing the site closure and offering suggestions of similar sites.
I will keep the posts of closed sites published at my blog, then change the links to the page announcing the site has closed and offer alternative sites matching the closed site.
I was concerned that removing content might have an impact with search engines. If a closed site wants me to remove their content, they can always ask and I will be happy to comply with their request.
Thanks again for your input DOC.
JaydeepGuestI did wonder the same about their content, have a fairly large amount of their stuff up. In this case, until the owners actually communicate with me (have a working email address for a start..) I will simply redirect all traffic from their content to other sites.
DommyGuestYes, it would have been nice for them to give us a working email address when they sent us their site closure announcement. I will keep the content online for now with a redirection to a site closure notice page offering alternative links. If they contact me asking to have the content removed, I will be happy to do so. Hopefully we won’t have this problem too often with sites closing, but it’s good to know what others are doing in this situation. Thanks Jaydeep.
