QueerHereGuest
I have been wondering why one of the larger entities in the industry have not tried to mimic the netflix format. It’s a format that so many consumers would understand, although sure it may involve a slightly more explanatory preview area so consumers know what they are paying for….
With services like AEBN who serve DVD producers, the format wouldn’t be much different.. would it?
Affiliates get a % sure….
Producers get x% of minutes a customer uses watching their scene (divided by) the total minutes that user consumed. Or would this format not work?
Do you think a big entity in the industry like AEBN/Stunner ect… Would have to license content monthly/annually to appease content producers? Considering most mainstream models are mimicked in adult… YouTube / PornTubes … I am shocked we haven’t seen this one yet.
Any opinions on why we haven’t? Or has it been done and it just flopped, so we didn’t hear about it? Could be an interesting topic!
JayGuestPPV’s VOD sites come the closets (e.g. rawTOP.tv), $10/mo for a limited number of minutes with inexpensive DVD downloads. Or a bit more for more minutes. And it sells WAY better than AEBN.
basschickGuestQueerHere, netflix doesn’t charge by the minute – the charge for a month of virtually unlimited streaming and charge separately for by-mail DVD rentals. we sat and watched 6 episodes of one of our favorite shows tonight on netflix, one after another – it was over 240 minutes of watching and only cost us our regular monthly amount, which isn’t much. paysites without downloads offer the same thing but charge a bit more.
conranGuestI’ve been thinking about this for a while, and it’s inevitable in my opinion.
It’s what the market has been calling for for a long time, and I think this is basically why there are so many using torrent sites and varied tubes. People get into habits regarding the sites they visit, and those offering what they want will gain that custom with loyalty if they do it right.
Sites like AEBN haven’t been offering the customer what they want – the Netflix model.
This has worked in music and TV, so why is it still not offered in porn?
The reason, in my opinion, is that most adult companies don’t want to submit to this model because they fear it will result in lower revenue. In reality, it’s not going to change the revenue situation now, it’s just going to give customers more choice in the way they access that content.
Studios need to start thinking about how each scene can more effectively earn them money, rather than focusing almost exclusively on rejecting everything but their own pay-site model. Some do this already by selling their older content to other companies for use on network sites, but that’s still relying on the traditional pay-site model.
That’s my view. I think it’s inevitable that it will happen eventually. We do need a Netflix of the porn world and eventually someone is going to set that up and get some brands on board with a sweet offer. Once that happens the threat of competition will drive more to join it.
MarkusGuestIsn’t that the direction of NakedSword? Some original content, mostly licensed content (and being honest about the original producers on that case). So basically a pool of gay porn from different studios and genre.
KevinGuest@Markus
Bingo.. Right on their signup form they state “The Netflix of Gay Porn”.. If you pay for a year it’s only $16.50 per month..
@conran
Aren’t NakedSword (Flat Monthly Fee) and AEBN (Pay Per Minute) owned by the same company? Seems to me they have both markets covered.
Kevin.
NakedSwordGuestMarkus and Kevin have it right! An article a couple of years ago referred to us as just that – SF Chronical Article and we have coined the phrase being the “Netflix of Gay Porn”!
dannyzGuestI’m just wondering, but couldn’t calling yourself the ‘Netflix of Gay Porn’ create some legal issues? I’m just wondering because in the work I do for AdamandEveTV.com, I wanted to brand the website as ‘The HBO of Adult Entertainment’ but their Lawyers told us that was a big ‘no no.’ It might be something you guys want to check into or be careful about!
brittonGuestIt was my understanding that with Helix licensing from Staxus and BoyCrush and making their site streaming for 9.99 that they intended to become the netflix of gay porn?
Seemed like a great idea for Helix– I wasn’t sure why BoyCrush and Staxus would want to help them crown themselves kings– but I also don’t have any idea how much they are paid.
TitanmenGuestI believe its called Nakedsword.com….
