I find out this question very interesting. I guess everybody have a interested story to tell on why and how did you start to work as an adult affiliate.
I always loved porn, the first think I looked for when I got my first internet connection. Back then browsers were a nightmare and I wanted to have some way of saving my bookmarks online, on a web site. At the same time I worked nightshifts at a ISP so I had plenty of time to fiddle around learning myself a bit of HTML and how things worked, that in turn lead to my first adult site. I just build on that site ever since, upgrading and changing, learning new things from it.
John2222GuestBack in 97 I was a broke ass college student who was getting ready to graduate with a useless degree in Archaeology and a 100k in student load debt. I was a little warez and hacker wannabe back then, I used to spend my nights as a warez courier, building websites for shits and giggles. I remember reading an article about some woman who was making bank by putting porn banners on her website. It seemed almost too easy, but off I went. I signed up with xpics, spammed a few links on some usenet groups and link lists… got my first check for a couple hundred a couple weeks later and that was it. 3 years later I had a paysite, close to a million in the bank, a new house and no student loan debt. Hooray for internet porn.
matehtGuestI started one of the first (non-adult) sites for gay youth in The Netherlands. The site was about news, nightlife, coming out and such things. When the site got bigger and bigger, I started to sell advertisement space on the website. The earnings did not even cover the costs and I started looking for alternative ways to make some money. I added an adult part to the site and I earned more than I expected.
MickeyGuestWas a porn surfer that one day noticed the “affiliate” link at the bottom of a page, this was back in 96-97 and it basically went from there with me trying my luck at free sites, avs sites, tons of tgps etc… then sadly i had a bit of an issue that took me out of business for some time but am now back stronger than ever and trying to get the hang of it again… its not 1999 anymore so have noticed i need to put a bit more work into it now than back when i started.
brahmanGuestIn 2007 i was selling allot of things on EBay for a little extra income. One day i noticed there was a roaring trade in used undies, socks and gym gear. I thought i wanted to be part of this and started selling items. EBay didn’t share the fetish and it became so frustrating due to the bans and policy arguments i set up my site.
I found that i could put banners on the site and make additional money and eventually decided that a separate listing site was needed, GayOnlyPorn followed soon after.
Both sites have undergone changes and are getting bigger and better, I still have a lot to learn but am enjoying learning…..and the extra income!
jonGuesti’ve always worked in adult – managed a strip club, owned and operated a stripper service that sent male and female strippers to parties and did strip a grams, worked in a dungeon, owned phone sex lines, later marketed phone sex and dating lines from a bureau in magazines and cable tv, and in 1996 decided to try marketing our dating and phone sex lines on the web. the rest, as they say, is history.
JavscoGuestMy story is no where near as awesome as the rest of you. I was in college, broke, like broke all the time. I majored in Digital/Media Arts and I found all my classes boring. I had pretty much taught myself how to graphic design, build websites, php, java, sql, html, all that stuff and I wasn’t learning anything new in school just going over stuff I already knew. Essentially I went to school to get a degree to make it “official” thinking it would result in better pay once graduating (wrong!) so I started freelancing for local bands, businesses, etc building websites, flyers, shirt designs, whatever. Freelancing sucked as no one wanted to pay a deposit fee and getting full payment once the job was finished was a hassle. most of the time I did the work and the client wanted the finished product before paying. in the beginning I was dumb and did so and then I never heard from them again.
So I started looking for full time work while still in school. Applied for a graphic design job from an ad that wasn’t really specific. I go to the interview and it’s this unmarked large office building, no signs out front, all the curtains drawn on all the windows, windows are even tinted. The front door was locked so I had to be buzzed in. I thought it was all very shady and instantly started thinking “oh this is a scam” I enter the building and it’s really super nice inside. huge. so I’m waiting, all dressed up professionally and I notice everyone else there is casual, cussing, shooting the shit and instantly I think “man i’m over dressed.” Woman comes down the stairs wearing jogging pants, tanktop and sneakers and she’s going to interview me. so she’s talking saying my resume and portfolio were really impressive (remember at this point I had NO CLUE what they did there) gets near to the end of the interview and she asks me “so how do you feel about porn?” totally caught me off guard, how do I respond? so I was honest “I like it, I’ll be honest and a couple years ago I tried setting up my own sites and even set up an automatic dialer” (yes I was that evil) The company was Pink Visual and I got the job. been in the biz ever since with one company or another.
ElleGuestI started because Im an Escort already so I have an ‘in’. Im going to build an adult site and my plan is to retire within three years because my new site will become passive income. I’ll just have to keep maintaining the site.
Bottom line, sex sells and Im going to cash in.
