OK…so I am late to the party as usual but I am determined to get into the adult blogging. I had my host install the latest version of WP… now I am trying to customize it. Just playing around right now to see what is what. I decided to do something very basic… change the header image of the default theme.
I am getting this error message:
“You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”
I have no idea what is wrong. Any ideas?
DOCGuestFirst off, I’d suggest not to play with the default theme. Reason is, it is your backup for if you do mess up on themes.
Check the permissions assigned to your themes, wp-content folder by the host. Sometimes they assign the theme to the server, or make it so the account holder doesn’t have the authority to change things. Most folders, need to be writeable by the admin. Which is another area to check. Make sure you are logged in to the admin section, as the Administrator.
That’s just a starting point. hth
jamephanGuestThanks for the suggestions. I am logged in as the admin in the admin section. I checked the permissions and they all appear to be set correctly. I am “playing around” now with a new theme but I get the same error message…so still not sure what is wrong.
DOCGuestWhen you FTP into the site, what does it say the permissions are for the folder wp-content? and for wp-content/themes ? Sometimes 755 won’t work and they’ll need to be set to 777.
skywalkerGuestI had a similar problem when I bought hosting for gay-sfw. They said something about having removed index.php when all I’d done was install WP. I can’t tell you what they did to fix it, they handled it for me.
I always use the install scripts on the hosting account to install (softaculous), then install a theme from within WP itself, then adapt it. I do everything from within WP and not really had any problems experimenting to get the site looking how I want it.
Sorry that’s not much help, but maybe if you’re using FTP instead of adapting the theme in WP it could be causing a problem? -
