I saw some big adult sites low the price to 14.95 month, I assume this is a temporal price, this is the trend, reduce the price 50% for the first month?
A few sponsors have been doing discounts like that the last few months. Not sure how big impact it has though. I have run a few campaigns with discounts and the signup ratios are not that different or better. But I think a banner that says “50% discount” will get more clicks than a banner without it.
You are totally right MRA! A banner or ad that offers an up front call to action such as save 50% now, will prompt double to sometimes triple the click throughs, taking the customer that much closer to joining. It does not always increase the joins, but it might get them there, whereas a plain banner without the call to action special offer may have been passed on by. In many cases if they like what they see and don’t join right now, they’ll come back the next day or later in the week or in our case they have a whole month to come back and join, whereas you’d get credit for the sale.
People just love sales and even horny people will be more motivated to explore the site when they think they are going to save a buck or 2. Studies have shown that consumers are more likely to buy when they think they are getting something for less (sale price). They even feel that they have MADE money when they are getting a percentage off or buying something at a lower price point than “normal retail” pricing. Crazy but true!
