I think i saw a thread about this before but can’t find it for some reason.
Anyways, is it just me or do other adult affiliates get kind of frustrated when promo packages are sent out with really large photos in them?. When i’m publishing content I usually spend 5-10 minutes optimizing photos when that time could have been spent writing up a post and getting more content out. When I get a promo pack with photos larger than 100kb, I just put it in my “publish later” pile and I usually can’t be arsed later on to publish them, unless I really like the scene/performers.
I know it’s not only me, I know others have said they prefer larger photos to optimize them themselves and that’s fine, but when affiliates receive a photo package with the size of each photo being 500kb to 1mb it’s a bit of a hassle. There are some sites that do send out really good blog size photos (not gonna point them out to remain neutral) but others are a reallllllllll pain.
Anyways how do you guys feel about this?
robGuestIt takes me five seconds to either bulk resize or bulk optimize (or both) so I don’t really see the problem to be honest.
Mr Adult AffiliateKeymasterPersonally, I would rather have images that large that I can crop and move around a little than the stupidly small pics offered by some.
For example, I can not really use a lot of the solo pics from the one sponsor because they are 480 wide. Who has a posting width of anything under 550?
I re-size all the images I am planning to upload anyway, so once I have the ones I need in a file I just select them all, open them in an editor and re-size them all at once. Job done.
MaxxGuestI never understood why would people prefer smaller images which CAN NOT be upscaled, to higher quality photos which anyone who wants to be a webmaster and earn a living knows how to downsize. It’s like listening to an affiliate that receives high definition videos from sponsor and prefers to get 340×180 px ones.
And one more thing rubs me the wrong way… even if it takes you 5-10 minutes, it’s your work/job. I mean, if you want to earn money you have to do something, sometimes you have to make up descriptions to photoshoots because a sponsor decided not to send one. Sometimes you have to make up models names because sponsor doesn’t care about that. And sometimes you have to work with screen shots when you would prefer high quality stills. And on some other occasions you have to change all links on every subpage that you have for certain sponsor because they suddenly decided to change to their own private merchant and didn’t have decency to leave old links up and running…
What I am trying to say is this, this is A JOB for everyone who is doing this full time and every job requires labour, and every labour is time consuming, but in the end you agreed to do it. Batch downsizing them is pretty easy and it shouldn’t take you few seconds. If you need help with that I’m sure everyone here will gladly help you.
NamikazeGuestFor everyone person that wants A, there are 10 more that want B, we cant get it right all the time.
DreamchaserGuest@Maxx,
YES PLZ . What program do you guys use? Photoshop?
robGuestOn Windows, FastStone Image Viewer. It has a batch convert tool.
If the images don’t need resizing, but just optimizing I use luci.criosweb.ro/riot/
DreamchaserGuestYou’re an absolute star…ACE!
TruerGuestLike the rest mentioned, please don’t make promo pics any smaller. Large photos are easy to work with and can be scaled to a smaller size. Small images are a pain to work with.
If you need another batch resizer program, I am using Light Image Resizer from VSO (free).
JontyGuestMaxx,
“And one more thing rubs me the wrong way… even if it takes you 5-10 minutes, it’s your work/job.”
Thank you for saying that. Seriously, thanks! It should be said more often.
