is it better to pick a keyword rich adult domain name or a more descriptive one?

for example PornHub in and of itself is not exactly a keyword rich domain name for porn videos etc but it does very well on google.

on the other hand there’s freepornvideos which is about as keyword rich as it can get.

while it is a crappy looking site it’s still on the first page of google (for porn videos).

i would think that a domain name is only factor in se ranking and that it would be better to go for ‘better’ name and let the site’s own content do the rest.

    right? wrong?

The name of a domain name is one of many factors in the search results. I would strongly suggest that you research what long-tail-keywords are. They may not be easy to remember like freepornvideos; but if you do execute them properly you can score high for some good keywords that get decent search results.

But, to answer your question, it’s better to pick a domain name that is brand-able and easy to remember if you want to create a high quality site that surfers can remember and type in. If you are looking for targeted SE results then go with long-tail-keywords. And don’t worry about hyphens and dashes and non .coms in long-tail-keyword domain names.

Th trick with long keys is that you really need to do competitive analysis on a domain name before developing it. Here is a good article –

Currently keyword rich names have a leg up in search results – especially exact match domains. However, Google has identified that as a problem they’re trying to fix.

I can envision Google removing all relevance from domain names and working solely on the content in the future. There is a demand for that too, with the value of domain names receiving higher than reasonable attention and access to relevant names becoming more difficult.

Lets face it, there has long been a problem where people buy up domain names in their thousands in the hope that a corporation might want one. And in cases where they do, they can charge whatever they want for it.

When you look at the success of some sites which have an “invented” title, like Google itself, we could argue that there has long been a need to remove all relevance from the words in the domain. It would remove a headache for webmasters, it would support creativity and modern brand development ideas, and it would give Google one less thing to worry about.

You’d still need relevance for the type-in-address-bar surfer so in that respect domain name relevance is self-policing. But I do think the keyword rich domain name is doomed from the SEO perspective.

That won’t happen for a pretty simple reason – brand names… If you type in Jake Cruise, then you probably want JakeCruise.com (an exact match domain). The challenge for Google is figuring out what’s a brand and what’s not a brand. There are some domains with generic words that become brands and they pop up all the time. Case and point my forum site – BreedingZone.com – a year ago it didn’t exist, the words in the name are relatively generic, yet Google now knows that people who type in ‘Breeding Zone’ probably want my site – it’s become a brand name to Google. I went from not being anywhere in the SERPs, to having the first three positions plus 8 sitelinks and two “more results…” links.

would the long tail search needs be met with use of a tag line that brands the site? that way you could have an easy to remember name(ifyou can register one) and still do well in the search engines.

i’ve had this happen on my personal blog. it’s domain is totally unrelated to adult but since i tend to post a certain type of man with the same tag line, my blog now comes up for when those words are searched for.

    ie google.com
best search engine in the world
