So I was looking through the stats for several adult affiliate accounts with different sponsors over the last couple of days and found that sales for some had dropped off, and then discovered that this coincided with the decline of a blog abandoned last year. This was a blog I assumed had not been doing much at all (which was why it was put on the back burner), but upon closer inspection it seems to have sprung into life shortly after my attention was diverted. It had been sending some sales my way, before declining again due to lack of attention.

I know it might be obvious to some of the veterans here, but I have a feeling many others might never bother to check where their sales are actually coming from. If you have a running blog boosting the numbers when you post, it’s easy to miss the fact that it could actually be an entirely different blog sending the majority of sales, unless you investigate the links.

I just thought I would put this out there and see if anyone else has experienced this. Any of you guys discover an old blog suddenly sending you sales? How often do you check the referring links?

How many of you will now be going back through all those accounts and checking the referring links to see where sales are coming from?

The first thing I do when a conversion comes in is to go and find out where it came from, and monitor all the traffic regular anyhow. Blog or free sites that have fallen under neglect will still convert, however I also feel as though programs that may be a little dicey (regarding shaving), may toss you a bone every once and again, and often times it seems like it comes from those types of sites.

It’s quite easy to do that mistake. I do similar things all the time, it’s just so easy to assume and think you know what sells specially if you have several sites and ways of selling.

This has always been one of my biggest wish list items with CCBill, that when they send you an email about a sale they include a link to the site where the surfer originated. That would be such a cool feature to have. Oh well, one can dream!
