Just received an Email from Netfirms, a registrar and hosting website, letting me know that the dot BLOG extension is now available for $26.99 a year. I have to wonder if it’s a good, or bad, idea to use the extension for adult affiliate type blogs. The price is more reasonable than I thought it would be, and not the $99.99 some of the new extensions had when they first came out.

What are your thoughts about the pros and cons of using a .blog for an adult affiliate blog url? Or any blog for that matter.

I am not averse to these .anything .you .like extensions, and I know some people have worked hard to get some that they really like!

BUT! If i am honest I am yet to actually see any ranking all that high on any search terms I use in my daily life, I know from a google stand point they “treat all extensions the same” but I don’t know if that is 100% true… All I ever see in my search results are .com and .co.uk (since i am in the UK)… I am not saying the are penalized but their older counterparts are fairing better, maybe this is because the .com and others are more established names and as such are already getting the traffic of age, but im still not convinced enough to put all my eggs in the .basket domain just yet!

Although saying that I can already think of 100000 cool names to come up with .blog on the end…

I have to agree with johnbrent about not seeing these custom extensions do anything for rankings. Just did a Google search for “free porn” and not one .XXX in the first three pages of results. They’re all dot coms except for one dot net. As for dot blog, my sense is that the word “blog” is becoming less used these days. People don’t talk about blogs, seems like all they talk about is instagram, facebook and snapchat.

Completely agree on both parts, and I think a lot of affiliate blogs are more like “news sites” than the traditional blogs, unless they include random pictures of hot guys with stories or personal statements attached ect, most peoples sites now are a lot less personal and a lot more commercial in both looks and content. I think the actual real “blogs” are the ones that are left on blogspot ect… and maybe that’s a good thing, maybe not, but time moves on… and we need to move with it… But I think .com will be around for a long while yet before any of these extensions even reach page 10…
