And I’m not suggesting that all other adult affiliate reps are worthless. But being an affiliate reps seem to be a starting point for people looking to get into the business these days. They all seem to be quite young and inexperienced. But to their defense, they are really there to answer simple questions and to entice new affiliates to join… not to provide complex support.

Well IMO “most” aff reps are not worth the paper their contract is written on (if they even have one)

That is biased purely on my own experiences marketing in the straight sector.

The usual response when you have a problem is “I will contact our programmer’s / I will contact our technical support for you” Then most just block / ignore your emails after that ..

And the few that do come back with something it is normally telling you what you told them in the first place was wrong ..

There is one cam company though that has live support and is on the ball very happy with them in that respect..

Another company the aff manager was a nice helpful dude, and he tried all ways to help me get conversions but to no avail at all…

It actually turned out to be their registration process that was at fault in the respect that it wanted CC details right from the start without even a sniff at what they had on offer ! … no wonder…

There are also a couple of others that were so ignorant I would love to meet them

So xstr8guy is right in his last statement also.

I think its odd to hire an affiliate rep who hasnt been an affiliate and lived solely off that money for quite a while. To be an affiliate rep as your first industry job, seems backwards to me.

I know the one rep that is pretty good and always happy to help me. He is one of the few really good ones actually. And it does work as I think my sales are increasing since he has been helping me.

I would like to see reps on the boards helping affiliates. One guy who did offer me help from cold calling, has actually done nothing much to help me other than saying “hey were gettign a redesign”. Many you send emails asking for advice, and they dont even reply!

If I owned a program Id want to help affiliates make as much money as possible and Id demand my reps know how to make sales in Adult – and of course how to answer emails!

the catch with this is that a successful affiliate will require a lot more money than most programs offer. the highest offer to work as a rep that i ever received was $4500 – and i had to go into their office and work 9 hours, so i’d be away from my place a minimum of 10 hours per day – and they didn’t want me “competing” by working in adult.

they were surprised that i didn’t take their offer because it was so much higher than reps are usually offered. but the way i saw it, it would have meant me not only earning less money but being stuck in their office all day and changing my entire sleep schedule. not very tempting for a successful webmaster… and most programs pay less – a lot pay way under half plus a percentage – and expect you to continually get more and more and more affiliates instead of concentrating on the ones they have and helping them earn more. funny thing – i can make the percentage by referring webmasters without having to take a subsistence wage job…

I too have gotten better help and advice from the webmaster boards (and most of that just from reading the discussions) than I have from my affiliate reps, for the most part. I like being notified of new tools and promotional content as soon as they are available, and especially appreciate those affiliate reps who offer and provide assistance as needed and who actually take suggestions for improvement of the affiliate program or paysite seriously.

There are not too many good affiliate manager in the adult business, only a few I know are trying to help new guys. It is a real shame.

Broadly speaking, yes it is an affiliate manager’s job to help affiliates make sales. However, this help should be given as “broadcasts” to all affiliates, i.e. they send out communication to everyone to help them make more sales. An affiliate manager is not a personal assistant of the affiliate though.
