After months of fightings with script, content, promo we are about to start our first paysite along with the adult affiliate program.

Would 15 days as holding period more appealing than the usual 30 days?

I’d be really happy if you mind to share your opinion with me.

The shorter the holding period, the better in my opinion…. however it’s not something I really consider while choosing a sponsor to promote.

Most NATS programs have a 15 day holding period. – all good IMHO

I don’t find that to be so. Most are 30 days from what I can see.

I’m with baxxx. The shorter the holding period, the better. But it isn’t a factor for me choosing a sponsor to promote. Good content and regular updates and no shady tactics when members sign up is much more important.

What does deter affiliates from promoting a site, or at least me, is when the holding period is 30 days but I still have to wait another 2-6 weeks after the holding period to see my money. When that happens more than once I am less likely to promote that sponsor ever again. It looks very bad on that sponsor and with the way things have gone over the past 2-3 years in this business with affiliate payouts, we are always left wondering ‘will I get paid, or not?’.

Thank you for considering our feedback. That is a very good sign.

As much as I like short holding periods, one should consider the reason for a holding period. Such as chargebacks, refunds, etc, that usually take longer than 15 days to happen. So I’d be careful before going to a shorter holding period, before checking with your Accountant, processors, etc.

This kind of stuff works the opposite way for me. When I see sponsors offering $50 PPS, low-holds, and the like I start to think: what’s wrong with the sponsor?
If you’re a brand new site you’ll already have to establish credibility with webmasters.

I’m more interested in whether your site has good content and if you update regularly, i.e. can I see it? After that: Is content available for affiliates to use?

You could have a no-day hold and if I can’t get some pictures to do a blog post or if your site has 200-pound hairy men that you’re calling twinks, it’s not going to be much use to me

I couldn’t agree more and have worked with people that do no holds – and so on and so forth – and trust me, people look at you as way way more shady if you try and do this than they would otherwise.

Not everything that looks good on the front helps you in the end – sometimes it just makes people more uneasy and causes them to turn away at breakneck speeds. I’d leave well enough alone for your own safety and fo the longevity of the affiliates that know the score and stick with you for the reasons rajdeep’s listed above.

Don’t make decisions to get other affiliates faster and easier – make them for the long haul and trust you are going to build by being steady on your feet for them.
