I’ve been wanting to start some new blog for quite some time, and I think it should be in a niche that is not already too exposed on the internet. One of those that often come to mind is foot fetish (naked feet, boots, sneakers etc.).
I wonder if this could be profitable, though, because there are probably tons of such blogs on tumblr, but still… I find the idea intriguing. Personally I like men’s feet, but it’s not my primary fetish and I can live without them. However I think that even a partial interest in feet could help in the long run because (in my opinion) you really need to at least like a niche in order to write well about it and persevere for a long time.
So what do you think – would a blog about men’s feet and footwear be at least mildly profitable in this age and time? I already have one undeveloped domain but I could register a new one if this name sucks.
I’d go for it. I think you’d have more success with a foot blog than one that promotes the same thing everyone else is doing.
I think for it to really work, you need to give it character. You need to really be into feet whether you can take them or leave them. People like belonging to a group and sharing their like-minded interests, so go for it … be a foot pig.
I was doing some keyword research last week and was seeing lots of different feet/foot fetish related searches. Could be a good score.
I always thought that niche or fetishes would be easier to sell as its more rare, the only downside is getting enough content to do something. But there is probably enough different foot sites for you to use:

Another subject that is probably even less saturated is Female to Male transsexual porn, but that might be more of a difficult niche to cover as a gay man. No idea if it sells or what the demand is like but there is actually a few sites now that covers it.
Another is Bisexual porn, it seems like an obvious one but compared to niches like foot fetish or pretty much any other fetish there is actually very little content or sites that are truly bisexual but I’m pretty sure there is a demand for it. It’s always surprised me why there is so little bisex around.

I thought the only problem would be how to find enough promo materials, but if only 50% of those sites that are listed on Bjorn’s URL offer good promo content, I think it would be fine.
I also thought about bisexual porn, but there just aren’t many sites to choose from.
Foot Fetish is compartively big niche so you should be able to find enough. If you expand it to tickling then there are even more sites to use.
I think you can find enough foot stuff.

But don’t forget that guys who like bare feet sometimes just like looking at them, not every post has to be about guys sucking toes. You could do a bare feet round-up post and grab pics from various updates where you actually see the guy’s feet. Do one pic from each update with a line of text, that sort of thing.
The “foot fetish” is just too broad a niche and needs to be divided into sub-niches.
There are bare feet, there are feet in white athletic socks, dark dress socks, there are guys wearing sneakers, there are guys sniffing worn sneakers, there are guys sniffing their own sneakers, there are guys sniffing other guys sneakers (in a locker room perhaps), there are flip flops, there are dirty feet.
Then you have the sex aspect where you can take all those few sub-categories I mention above and throw in a second guy…sniffing another guys dirty feet, licking the feet, licking the toes, licking the dirty sneakers while being worn by the other guy…it is just endless!
So…the foot fetish niche must be taken to a micro-niche level to be successful IMHO.

I might agree if Ben were starting a membership site, for example, guys who like watching others sucking toes may not be into dirty socks or seeing a guy getting his feet caned, but for a new blog about feet, I don’t think the focus needs to be so narrow. In fact, when you’re starting out, I think it’s probably better to cast a wide net and offer lots of variety to see what sells.
These days it’s going to take a while to build a blog anyway.
Plus, if you throw all your eggs in one micro niche, you might wake up one day to find the one or two sponsors producing said content are gone, leaving you high and dry.
I agree with Michael, while there are subniches within the foot fetish niche, I think it wouldn’t be wise to focus on only one of them, at least not in the beginning. I thought that I could perhaps make blog categories with the subniches that JR mentioned (bare feet, soles, hairy feet, sneakers, white socks, boots, toe sucking etc.)
So far I usually used porn sites’ names as categories on my blogs (surprisingly that worked better than giving categories some more general names such as “big dicks”, “athletes”, “hairy chest” etc.), but in the case of such a well defined smaller niche as foot fetish, I think that subniche names might work as categories.
I expect to have enough time to devote myself to starting the new blog during this week so I will be checking out all the blogs that have been mentioned in this thread.
