For those of us who have been around the adult business for a while we are aware there was a time when smaller affiliates seemed to succeed better when they targeted specific niches, or even just one niche. Things have changed, however and since then I have tried to branch out into the more ‘mainstream’ niches.

While this does seem to work for me at times, my biggest issue with it is that so many other affiliates are promoting the same scenes/shoots/videos. You submit a hot blog post to a blog sharing site etc (or what you may think is hot), and 5 others have been there, done that already. It really affects the ratio of making any sales with that particular blog post. Sure, it may come down to originality, quality of text, image choice etc, but it’s still a huge gamble.

I used to do well with fetish and kink and it is what turns me on predominantly. I usually don’t get too turned on anymore by porn after so many years of promoting it, but if there is anything that grabs my fancy it’s usually kink related.

My point – is it still lucrative for a small adult affiliate to target a particular niche and stick with it? I want to be unique and perhaps that means going back to kink – which very few affiliates promote from doing research – and finding that particular audience again. I used to get mad traffic for kink, fetish and BDSM. I wonder if that is still possible with Google’s consistent changes and the market today.

    Your thoughts? Thanks.

I would say, definitely start a niche site that you yourself are into. If you are into the kinky stuff, then this is a really big advantage. There are so many new adult affiliates that start a site in a niche that may be profitable but they you are clueless about it and most of them quit after a month or so.

To be honest with you, making money online on mainstream porn is hard nowadays. There is a tons of competition, the big companies are controlling almost all the traffic so it is super hard for a newbie with very little cash to compete with them.

It will be always easier to make money in the niche market for a newcomer in this industry, in my opinion. You need something new, original, or exclusive if you want to succeed. Just be prepared to work hard every day.
