I think it’s worthwhile only as an affiliate, and only if your expectations are very low. By that I mean not expecting to make a lot of money doing it.
It’s a pretty saturated market, and there are a lot of larger companies out there who can spend millions on advertising, and they buy stock in to be able to offer at a far lower price than most others can. Basically, you’re only really selling to those who don’t know how to search for a better deal, and there aren’t many of those left. If they’re comfortable buying on-line, they’re likely to be more experienced with searching for the cheapest deal.

I would suggest the following:

Use an affiliate method and not dropship.
Use WordPress.
Write 100% unique product pages.

After almost two years running the adult toy store, I’m on the verge of giving up on it entirely. I’m giving it another few months and if it isn’t bringing in a profit I’ll be closing it down.

From my experience, traffic will be your major problem. I have thousands of links into the site and my organic traffic is pathetic for a site of its size. Some of that is down to content, and my disinterest in recent months, but after so long and so many pages, with so many links in, you’d think Google would be sending more than 60 organic hits a day. And that’s up on what it was just a couple of weeks ago thanks to my constant efforts recently!
