Wondering if anyone has any suggestions for video editing software.
I will be cutting clips out of full scenes, and also re-watermarking them.
Regarding re-watermarking…would you say it’s best to just put an opaque block over the current one, or to crop the video so that the watermark is removed entirely, and then place a more transparent one in?
Yes, I have gotten permission to do this. I don’t wish to steal content.

I do not do cutting or re-watermarking, because when I need it to be done, I hire people for it. But I have heard lots of good things about Vegas Movie Studio.
About the re-watermarking, it is hard to tell, it boils down to which one will leave your video more esthetic.
