- Give each reviewer their own login. There are two reasons for this – the first one is that if one of the logins is abused in some way, you can delete that login without turning off the others. The second one is that you can see which reviewers are logging into your site and how often they are. Please always check that logins work, you would be surprised how many are not correctly setup.
- Do not send out 1 week logins to reviewers. In a perfect world, we would be able to review every site submitted within a week. This is NOT a perfect world, however. Sometimes we will hear from 20 or 30 sites all at once wanting to be reviewed. Please send at least a 30 day access – it does not cost you anything, and makes it more likely your site will not be moved to the bottom of the queue when we discover the login you sent does not work. Big programs like nastydollars often give out passes that last a year or even forever, so whenever they have a new site, we can review it right away. To have logins that are valid for longer than a week is very important. It saves time for us and the paysite owner. It also means the review will be finished and published sooner.
- A lot of smaller site owners are shy about having their sites reviewed, but consider this: most review sites will happily update your review once your site has had time to grow. In the meantime, why not enjoy some sales while the site is small? Even if your site only has 10 videos, if they are great quality or your site has real personality, you will probably get a pretty positive review even if your rating for site size is not the highest.
- In the last few months I wrote to most of the sites listed on rabbitsreviews asking for a login so we could update the reviews. Probably 75% of the webmasters who responded wrote to say could I hold off on the review – they were currently redoing their member area. I heard that from over 80 webmasters. Guess how many have written to say the they are ready for the review a few months later. Give up? none – zero – nada – zip. How about if you send reviewers the login when asked, and when your new member area is ready, email the reviewers and let them rewrite it at that time? The truth is that few websites are ever really finished – if you let the reviewer know the site is under construction, they will probably update the content info and wait till your new layout is done to rereview that.
- You are always welcome to ask for a review update, specially if you feel that a lot has improved, changed or simply if your site has grown a lot. I am not sure about other review sites works, but I got a feeling review sites do not update their reviews very often. If you do want to have a updated review, make sure it is not too soon after first being published and also setup a login that you supply when you contact me / us / the review site.
- Do not write and tell the reviewers what they should say about your site. Most reviewers have seen a lot of paysites – I have reviewed over 2500 sites myself. We know how your site compares to other similar sites in terms of video size and quality, we know what we or are clients need in terms of facts and description. Several times site owners wrote to tell us we should not say their site is small because they work so hard on their content. Well, folks, here is the deal – your members will figure out that your site is small when they see you have 12 pic sets and 4 movies. If we tell them that honestly, all the traffic the review will send will be interested in what your site honestly has to offer. That leads to better conversions and much lower chargebacks. If your content quality is great, do not worry – most reviewers will tell the readers that, too.
- While I can often understand site owners and how it might feel like an personal “attack” when a review is critical of something, it does not mean me or the reviewers do not like your site. Critical, honest and objective reviews sells far better than a review that only praise a site. Take any criticism as a way to improve your site. It is free advice from people who seen many sites and know the market and sites very well.
- One thing that really can upset (to put it lightly) me and reviewers is if you after a review been completed no longer want it published or want it removed. Not only does it cost a lot of money to create detailed reviews but it also takes time. Before considering getting your site reviewed, make sure you are prepared to take the good with the bad. It is likely your site will not be considered for listing again if you do.
Okay, that is a start for now. If you have some more useful tips, do not be afraid to post them in the comments.
