If I Were An Online Adult Industry Newbie

I started in this business around the end of 1997. Back then, TGPs were still a new thing and my first adult affiliate website was just a gleam.

I am not a big fan of if-you-could-go-back-in-time questions.

In fact, I hate them because nobody can go back in time and I just do not see the point in dwelling on the past that can not be changed.

Absolutely, we should examine the choices and mistakes we have made so that we do not repeat our failures.

But when people start suggesting that I jump into some imaginary time machine so that I can alter my past and, as a result, my future, I will not do it. It is a colossal waste of time and imagination.

If I am going to fantasize about possible outcomes I would much rather ruminate on outcomes where I can have an actual affect – possible futures, so to speak. For example:

“If I were a newbie today, knowing what I know, what would I do to make money as an adult webmaster?”

I know. I see the flaw. If I were really a newbie, then I would not know what I already know.

I would be just as blind as every other adult Internet newbie and undoubtedly even cockier than I was when I was a newb.

While I will not entertain pretending to change my past, I certainly remember how convinced I was that I knew better than everyone did.

I was going to “revolutionize the business” and it took me a good long time to get over myself and learn to listen to others.

I guess that is number one on the list of things I would do if I were a newbie today:

1. Get Over Myself And Listen To People That Are Already Making Money In This Biz

This might seem like such simple advice but it took me well over two years for the concept to penetrate my thick skull.

What else would I do? Well, I would:

2. Register A Domain Name And Buy Some Fucking Hosting

I will not say how long it took me to jump into the domain/paid adult hosting thing, I am so embarrassed.

Suffice it to say, I waited too damned long.

There is no excuse for waiting today. Free hosts are bullshit for people that want to make money and that is just a fact.

Go fork out the ten bucks to register a domain on Namecheap.com and pay the $5 it costs to open a beginner web hosting account with 247-Host.

Next, I would:

3. Install WordPress And Start An Adult Site

People had online journals run from rudimentary versions of modern blog software in the late 1990s and (do not tell anybody) if I really could go back in time, I would have started blogging a lot sooner.

I would have opened an adult-themed blog and made it my hub.

I know that you think that blogs are kind of old hat and that social networking portals like Facebook are where the action is but Facebook does not want our business.

It is much better to own your own social networking portal and when you enhance software like WordPress, you have got a pretty powerful CMS on your hands.

You can create your adult site as vast or as intimate as you like, depending on your specific array of plugins.

Just install WordPress for free and grab a premium adult tube theme from XWPThemes.com and start adding your video posts today.

Lastly, I would:

4. Work Hard And Be Consistent

I hate to sound like a broken record but that really is the key to success – hard work over a lengthy amount of time.

If you are going to make and submit mini free sites, then do not do it few times and then blow it off for a couple of months.

If you are going to open an adult site, post every single day, the more daily posts the better.

If you promise to add a daily gallery to your main site, then add a daily gallery.

Surfers have memories like fish – new thoughts push out the old ones and if you do not keep shaking the jingley keys in front of their faces, they will forget about you.

There is other stuff I would do like take full-throated advantage of the vast amounts of sponsor created/hosted content out there.

Back in ’97 all we got were a few shitty banners and full-size images that had to be placed on HTML pages.

Wrapping It Up

Most of all, I would pay attention to item number one and listen to my fellow webmasters on the boards and in the trade articles.

No, they are not going to tell you the super-duper secret to everything because frankly, there is not one.

It is all about elbow grease and dependability.

You can not go back in time to get a head start.

I can not change the mistakes I have made.

What we can both do is make better choices now so that our futures will be amazing.

Now, feel free to leave a comment if you would like to ask me a question and I would love to know if you have some other advices for adult affiliates that are just starting out.

Also, do not forget to take a look at my forum where you can find more useful information being posted every day.

  1. Hi Mr Adult affiliate. Been taking a good look around your site. Really good advice for both pros and newbies.

I have an interesting offer and a very unique product you may be interested in.

If you get a chance it would be great if we could discuss.

    Kind Regards

  2. Kind regards webmaster. I am very lucky to find this article. I am a new webmaster in the world of adult sites, and I use wp and monetize with ppc dn cpm sponsors, which is a problem for me is I lack video content and I need to manually embed video from other sites to my site. Is there any suggestion for me. Thanks.

    • It depends on what kind of site you have. If you run a big boobs porn site, then there are tons of videos on the XVideos, PornHub which you can embed on your own site. If you are using the WordPress then I would suggest to get the Importer plugin from the XWPThemes, so you can get easily search for videos and grab them in a few seconds from the porn tube sites.

If you want to monetize your site, then I would suggest you to try different ways of monetization. You can try to sell some traffic to ad companies but you should also sign up for some paysites as an affiliate and try to promote their sites.

  3. Thank you for your response. Xvideo can not be played in my country. Visitors must use the proxy to enjoy the video. That’s the problem. Is there a cheaper and great way. I found a kenplayer plugin that is able to change all that. But I do not have enough money to buy it. They do not sell on credit or pay per month until it is paid off. I admit they created a really great plugin and it’s worth the price.

    • If you have some more questions then please do visit my forum and create your own topic there. You should target countries where watching porn online is legal because it is hard to make any money with traffic from the country where it is illegal.

  4. Good advice. If I could start my main blog over I would have self-hosted from the beginning instead of using a free platform. When I finally took the plunge it was nowhere near as bad as I thought it was going to be.

  5. I am working very hard lately but something happened to my sites, traffic dropped. I am not going to give up, I think that adult niche is the gold mine. I like your website a lot and thanks for the tips in this simple but still effective article.

  6. Where would we be without your guidance, Mr. Adult Affiliate? You didn’t have to put out all this knowledge for free, but you have and I along with the rest of the noob affiliates are grateful. You have given us the opportunity to learn how to make money for ourselves and work to one day escape the 9 to 5 slave ship. Keep preaching, sir. We are listening.
