You heard the “get rich quick” promises. You read about different ways to make “easy” money online. I am sure you were excited at first too, only to be let down with disappointment.
There are millions of adult porn websites out there. And there are thousands of new adult sites created every day.
I can tell you from my own experience that having thousands of referrals over the last decade, I know only a small fraction of affiliates actually succeed, if you measure success by earning money online.
It turns out that most webmasters who start porn websites quit within the first two months.
I am going to give it to you straight. Making money online in the adult is NOT easy. Getting traffic to your site is NOT easy. But it can be done.
Here are the top mistakes that cause most affiliate businesses to fail.
Not Creating A Quality Content
The cause of this failure is simple – adult webmasters are not willing to put in the work.
Many newbies only start sites with the intention to make a fast money which is why they quit after not making enough within a short period of time.
It is not 2000 anymore so you have to create a very unique and valuable content that stands out from the crowd if you want to succeed.
Google and other search engines will reward your hard work by increasing your website ranking.
Going Too Broad
There are webmasters that start with a general tube site that covers all the niches. It is a big mistake, they are going to compete against the major porn players such as Pornhub, Redtube so there are really small chances that their sites will rank for the very competitive keywords.
Do not get me wrong, it can be done but it could take at least a several months.
I highly recommend to choose an adult niche – as narrow a niche as possible, because these sites have quite less competition.
Lack Of Patience
I think of the primary reasons adult affiliates fail is lack of patience. They do not understand that it takes time to get organic traffic.
It takes about a few months to get a new website on their feet. Sadly often webmasters give up after a several days because of lacking results.
Failing To Treat Online Work Like A Real Business
Whether it is the online or offline world, all successful businesses start with a vision. The clearer and more compelling you can make this vision, the more motivated you will be towards making it a reality.
Most adult affiliates marketers do not take their business seriously. So instead of putting in the necessary time that is essential to growing a successful business, they look for “shortcuts” and “tricks.”
Always think of the big picture. What is your short-term and long-term plans for your website? What kind of resources will you need to take it to the next level? What steps can you take today that will get you closer to making this vision a reality?
When you start to think of your adult affiliate business like a REAL business, you will plan and execute your strategies accordingly. This is how your business will continue to grow over time, along with your monthly earnings.
Failing To Have An Effective System
Think about any regular job you have held in the past. When you started work, you were put through training. Someone taught you and was watching over your shoulder, coaching you, giving you tips, and answering your questions.
Let’s compare that to a typical adult affiliate. You sign up, you are given some affiliate links and marketing tools, and then you are on your own, expected to know how to start making thousands of dollars online. If you are like most affiliates, your first online attempts did not pan out quite the way you expected.
The key to becoming a successful adult affiliate is to have an effective system. The system does not need to be complicated, it just needs to be proven that it works. Consider investing in an affiliate marketing training course.
Top adult affiliates know how to take out the guesswork by using persuasive copy, site design, SEO, and more. The cost of a course might set you back a bit financially, but it can also make you tens of thousands of dollars in the long run.
That said, learning on your own can be extremely frustrating since it is hard to trust most of the information there. So if you are serious about making money online, you may need a coach that can guide you and answer your questions along the way. This will save you a LOT of time and and money.
Giving Up Too Early
Here is what happens to most affiliates. They go online and do a search for “how to make money online.” They find a product and sales page promising them thousands of dollars without any effort required. They are sold.
Unfortunately, the product did not deliver. After feeling discouraged from their lack of success, they opt to put the blame outside of themselves:
- “Affiliate marketing is a scam.”
- “It is nearly impossible to make money online these days.”
- “I worked for 10 hours online and did not make a single penny. What a waste of time!”
If you are new to adult affiliate programs, do not expect money to be thrown at you. Understand that the reason most affiliates do not make significant earnings is not because of the program per se, but because of the affiliate.
They throw in the towel too soon, or they have not been taught how to make it work.
The bottom line is adult affiliate programs are the highest paying programs online. Your first $1000 will be the hardest. From there, monthly earnings only go up. And once you start making significant payouts, you will be motivated to make even more.
Having Too Big Expectations
Building a site looks easy and effortless; but, building a money making a new site is not.
I see tons of newbies that think making money on porn sites is very easy and very quick without doing any real work.
No wonder that they quit quickly in droves. The traffic pump, which is essential for ongoing revenues, involves time and effort.
What Kills The New Webmaster?
I am beginning to think that tedious, boring, mind-numbing grunt work may be the ultimate reason for the failure of most newbies. Once the thrill is gone, and it does go, all that is left is work. And, then more work. There is no more time to gaze and drool.
The luxury of looking at porn, for the sheer physical pleasure of looking, has been replaced by programs, content, hosting, legalities, tags, submissions, traffic, and all the other anal details involved in site building.
Instead of collecting a weekly pay check, our surfer-turned-pornographer lives as many live. Week to week. Suffering through holidays when no one buys to the dreaded summer slow down, which does exist.
Instead of having weekends off, the webmaster works twelve to sixteen hours a day, seven days a week. There is no rest, not until that first sale is made. There is no rest after that, because one sale does not a webmaster make. It is ongoing, forever and ever.
I have heard that 99% of those new to this industry fail. I believe it. How many are willing to put themselves through the isolation of being a webmaster in an increasingly hostile world, having to build for a surfer he cannot see or know?
We talk about the target audience; but, in reality, even with research, it is an educated guess. Mostly, it is reading and searching and researching for that day when it all comes together.
Internet time is not the same as real time. Patience, while a virtue for others, does not seem to exist in the world of webmastering; yet, this is where patience is needed the most.
Building the traffic pump takes time and it is not exciting; yet, I hear newbies complaining, that, after two weeks, nothing is happening, so they move on to something else.
By the time they quit the industry, they are left with bits and pieces. The network of sites, which is built one piece at a time, is fragmented, broken, disconnected. Just like the business plan of our surfer who thought he could be a pornographer.
He made several major mistakes.
He thought it was easy to be a successful adult webmaster.
He thought money fell from the sky with a single web site.
He did not make a plan, nor did he follow through.
He lacked the patience to build the foundation.
Our surfer is no longer in the industry. He has fallen into a pit of his own creation, of failed wannabe entrepreneurs, piled amongst the others who wore rose coloured glasses.
The dreams of fast cars and faster women have faded into the distance and he is back at his dead end day job, scratching out a living, leading his ordinary life, disillusioned and thinking there is not any money to be made in porn.
How wrong he is. There is money. For those with a solid business plan, follow through, hard work, there is money!
Practice makes perfect, and if you spend time researching and redesigning your sites until you find something that works for you, you can fit in this business, it just takes time!
These are the most common mistakes I see, but there are others. Many, many others, here are a few more for you without going into too much detail.
A Few Other DON’Ts:
- DON’T start with a paysite. It costs a lot of money to start and it will not make much at first.
- DON’T be tempted to promote illegal content such as underage or animals. Self-explanatory.
- DON’T forget to keep learning. Read the boards at least once a week to stay up to date with new trends.
- DON’T neglect to help others when you can. Remember those who helped you as a newbie.
- DON’T give up if you do not make your goals. Study, practice, and keep trying!
- DON’T treat this as a hobby. If you are serious, you must treat it as your job. Put in the hours.
- DON’T be afraid to ask questions. Someone once told me the only stupid questions are the ones you do not ask.
Making money as an adult affiliate is not easy. It took me a few days to make my first dollar online from my first website back in the 90’s.
So you will have to keep patience and definitely put more efforts in making your online presence work for your new business.
Remember, keep working hard on your site and keep learning new stuff, things will start happening.
You will figure a lot more out on your own. The best advice I can give you is to use common sense.
Frankly, there are many people out there that do not even seem to have any common sense and it is truly sad. They are the ones that do not last in this industry.
If you are truly serious, and you want to be successful in this business, you can do it. Be nice to everyone you meet, do not be afraid to ask for help when you need it, roll with the ups and downs and work hard!
